I cannot be certain that free will is an illusion, but I can also not see a way around it not being an illusion. Because we are humans with no possible grasp on all those near infinite amount of causes leading up to my striking these keys on my keyboard with no possible predictability very far down the line, we are forced to live as if we have free will. We do not ignore personal responsibility if for no other reason than that we cannot be certain that free will is an illusion, but even if we did know for certain, I still maintain that responsibility is itself causal. The problem may be in the definitions, but as they are, "free" implies arising out of nothing and "will" implies volition.

I think humans have all different goals and don't think there is an infinite good. Person A is going to have different goals than Person B. I doubt that there is any one human goal that all of humanity would aspire to.

80)"people still believe so it is not so illogical, because if it was, then no one would believe."

hmmm.....strange that a sentence about what is logical can be so illogical.

"What is the goal of humans. To do good?"

I'm not thinking doing good as much as just simply reproducing...just like every other life form on the planet...

So because others don't have the same point of view, that's illogical?

"simply reproducing..." is that it.

I wouldn't even go so far as to say that our goal is to reproduce. We're here. That's it. The fact that we tend to reproduce, is part of our genetic legacy whereby those with higher fecundity happen to be more prevalent. It's not a goal. Just a happy accident.

Of course you can always make your own goals. I'd like to learn Spanish. :P

"Of course you can always make your own goals"

since we have that capacity, I think making our own goals is in itself a big part of 'the' goal.

But this whole goal thing is just one big sharpshooter fallacy.

yes... I don't much like talk of 'goal' anyway.
the real goal is death.
what matters is the path,
not the destination.
